BRENICK asked, what is Alkaline Water?
Great question! Sorry I didn't clarify.
Alkaline water is water with a high pH. Water has different characteristics which are a result of the land it travels through because it picks up minerals along the say. The higher the number the more alkaline it is. For example a pH of 2 is acidic, while a pH of 9 is very alkaline. The pH of the human blood is 7.6 and it's suggested that it's ideal to drink water that has a pH between 7.4 - 9. Fiji water has a pH of 7.5 while diet coke has a pH of 2.5. Drinking acidic drinks & foods increases the body's vulnerability to disease. There are ways to make your water more alkaline. At Good Earth, or your local health food store you can find alkalizing pH water drops. I like ConcenTRACE Mineral drops. You just drop them in your water and it raises the levels of minerals!
WENDY asked, What do you think about recovery drinks while working out? Science suggests a glucose/protein/electrolyte replacement drink after exercise. Do you think they're valuable?
Electrolyte is just a fancy word for putting minerals back into blood. Liquid Chlorophyll diluted in 32 oz of water during workout or right after is fabulous! When I was training for a marathon, this chlorophyll was a lifesaver! I would have clients drink a glucose/protein/electrolyte drink after exercise but ONLY if they were trying to put on Lean Body Mass (muscle). If putting on muscle isn't your goal, then this type of drink is not necessary (in my opinion). But chlorophyll is great for a recovery drink along with taking an amino acid supplement if you feel like you are having a hard time recovering after resistance training workouts.
JEN LEE asked, Is it safe in the long run to cut out acidic foods? My friend lost a bunch of weight doing so.
Yes, all acidic foods are processed, highly cooked or homogenized. Cutting these out means that you'll be eating more raw fruits and veggies which is ideal. I believe in moderation. A diet of 70% alkaline and 30% acid is ideal. This helps remove impurities from the body. The best diet for most people is one that doesn't create toxicity, which comes through an acidic diet.
LACEE asked, It's extreme to never eat sugar. Do you really eat like this? Buying specialty food items cost a ton!Yes, processed sugar seems to be in EVERYTHING. However, foods that are pre-made, processed usually contain the sugar. If you are eating a clean/healthy diet, you won't come across the sugars as much. If I desire baked goods, I make them with xylitol or stevia which are natural sweeteners and it tastes great! Do I eat like this? Yes, unless I go to dinner at a friends house. I try not to be anal about what I eat. I will eat whatever is being served, however I still try to make good food choices. For example, salad dressing are loaded with sugar. Instead of the dressing I will squeeze a lemon or lime as my dressing. If these aren't available I will put NOTHING on top of my salad. It's actually interesting how yummy veggies start to taste when they aren't loaded with dressings that take away their flavor.
Specialty food items do cost more, but they are so much more worth it especially when you realize the health benefits that come from higher quality foods. The main things I would recommend you purchase from a specialty store is hormone-free meats and organic veggies and fruits (they don't contain pesticides and herbicides that are now sprayed on our produce).
EMILY CHRISTMAN asked, Do you Recommend a Candida Cleanse? I've heard of ones where you just drink pure liquid with lemons & apples.
Going off food doesn't do much for candida. It takes a long time for Candida to die, and liquid cleanses usually last only 3-7 days. A flush won't help get rid of yeast and fungus. I would however, recommend doing a Candida cleanse that consists of following my diet guidelines listed here and take supps that kill the yeast and fungus. The supps can add up to being quit expensive, so I would get the Candida clear cleanse, which is a 14 day cleanse with packets of all the supps you'll need in one!
If you REALLY want to buckle down and get rid of all your candida problems, I would do the 14 day Candida clear cleanse 3 times = 6 weeks. and adhere strictly to the diet. I would also add probiotic eleven (4 in morning/4 at night.) As well as Silver shield (2 T/day).

Okay so I am 7 days into my candida cleanse. I am surprisingly not hungry. I still crave goodies, but only if they are in the room with me. Mostly I crave variety, but I like it so I'm pleased about that. BUT, I have this skin thing going on that I'm not so sure about. Aleena says it's the candida leaving the body and mine chose to come through the skin. Have you EVER seen this? And should I keep my appt with my dermatologist?
this is Lindsay Gardner, btw (and if you'd rather email me it's lpolly10@hotmail.com I am just curious as to what in the world is happening!)
Yes, the Candida is leaving through the skin. It's normal and a very good thing! You want to be careful what you put on it. I would recommend silver shield GEL. This can be found at natures sunshine through Herbs for Health.
Good luck! I'm so glad It's working well for you. Continue to let me know how it goes.
Okay, I love, love, love your blog!! I was wondering if you could start posting some more stuff about emotional health. I'm somebody that has always struggled with my health- but I exercise a ton, and am actually pretty health concious. I don't eat sugar, eat tons of veggies, all whole grains, etc. I know there are lots of ways I can still improve, but I'm doing a lot already. The more I'm learning about emotions and their realtionships to energy and health though... I'm starting to think that might be more my problem. I'm a total perfectionist and really hard on myself. Your post on relaxing really opened my eyes to why I probably really struggle with energy level. Anyway, I would just love to learn more about this. Also, if you have any suggestions for books to read on this subject, I would love that as well. I am all ears!!
Thank you, thank you for all your knowledge and taking the time to share it with all of us!!

Thank you so much for answering all those questions. They were all very helpful! I did the "spit test" for Candida and don't have it (yea for me), but my diet still needs a lot of work. Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions and information. The more I am learning about nutrition and how it affects the body (for good and bad) the stronger my desire to take better care of my body. Now I just need to get my desires to match my actions :)
Ok... so I tested positive for the candida (no shock there) but what do you think of doing the cleanse while breastfeeding? Releasing a lot of toxins doesn't sound too wise if there's a chance it will get into my milk. Also - any recommendations on how to lower blood pressure and cholesterol... Dave is high in both. Thanks! I love this site - I'm learning so much from you!
I know your probably crazy with that preety little baby of yours but PLEASE update your site I need enlightenment for my own selfishness. But either way your the best 80)
